Begin a Master’s degree through UMKC in a cohort model, attend Summer Institute, receive a $20,000 living stipend as well as access to two education grants and health benefits, receive weekly coaching and observations from a KCTR Coach, be granted a State of Missouri Educator license and work alongside a mentor teacher in a KCTR partner school.

Commit to at least three years of teaching in a KCTR partner school, complete a Master’s degree through UMKC in Year Two, continue to receive KCTR coaching and feedback, receive ongoing professional development, access classroom resources, and participate in KCTR community events.

We believe hands-on, real classroom experience is critical to the success of our residents. In their first year of our program, KCTR residents gain over 1,200 clinical hours of in-classroom experience with a master teacher in a partner school. Through this experience, residents are set up to be successful and confident transitioning into a full-time teaching position beginning in year 2.

Kansas City Teacher Residency believes that all children deserve to have a quality education and an effective teacher, which is why we prepare our residents to work with diverse populations with unique needs, including students in poverty and students with different racial, cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Coaching is one of the most important components of our program. Our residents receive coaching and feedback from their mentor teacher, as well as from their KCTR instructional coach.
